Abandoned quarries – Pallavaram, Chennai

Pallavaram, Chennai, India is well known for the rock type Charnockite (ranging from Enderbrite to Biotite). Soil is probably ferrous in nature. The rocks are metamorphosed granite. Low hillocks have been dug out using manual methods of quarrying. Rainwater has collected forming deep pools. This area is protected under the natural resources act. Here are a few shots of the pools and rocks.
